The main theme of the game is the new cat transformation. The basic game principle is similar to that of its predecessor 3D Land and consists of maneuvering the character through numerous three-dimensional, linear levels to the goal. In addition to the series protagonist Mario, the characters Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and, as the secret character, Rosalina are used.
